Nature Serendipity practices pattern finding in nature and how it can further be a source of creativity. Looking into the nature for inspiration is nothing new for the contemporary days. The ideal of proportion that was used by ancient Greek architects in designing temples and the volutes of capitals of the Ionic and Corinthian Orders, Golden Mean, is similar to that of the growth patterns of many spiral forms that occur in nature. A more recent art movement prevalent in the design world, Art Nouveau, was inspired by natural forms and structures, particularly the curved lines of plants and flowers. With the aid of parametric design, modern-day designers utilize computational technologies to analyze and simulate the complexity observed in nature and apply it to structural building shapes and urban organizational patterns.

The pattern drawing is inspired by observation of moss on a tree trunk at Forest Park, St. Louis. The language of the drawing is then translated into a sculptural structure as an observational deck in the park. Pencil drawing on mylar paper is the main media in documenting the observation and the quality of the sculpture generated from the drawing.
